Page One
There is something
about the human condition that
not only instills in us a desire
to know about the present and
see into the future, but also
compels us to seek knowledge in
the events of the past. This website
contains a wealth of information
about who we are, what we do and
where we intend to go, but something
within you has drawn you to that
history link. Well, we have no
intention of robbing you of the
events of our past. Please be
aware that this page is in no
way an attempt to glorify Ya-Mama.
I fully intend this to be an unbiased
chronicle of Ya-Mama to date,
so expect it to be a "warts
and all" account.
30th of July 1999 was a day that
will go down as a huge day in
the Mama annals of history as
Kingpin finally hit the shelves
in the UK. Jak-L decided to make
the leap from SiN to kingpin starting
with a core group of Feedback,
Snowy, StinkFist, Peaver, Pussy
and SexyMama. Within 10 days of
the release of the game Mama began
expanding their Kingpin team as
they signed their first Kingpin
player worthy of gracing the Mama
short handle. Stinger(US) was
to become a long term but somewhat
inactive member by taking 5 months
sabbatical before successfully
debuting. August would also see
a minor disagreement with another
Clan who were also cruising the
Kingpin servers using a Mama short
handle, but thankfully they were
easily persuaded to change their
clan name. If they hadn't who
knows what we would be called
now?
Next to sign up with Mama were
Spanky(LPB) and Salem(HPB). Joining
within 2 days of each other these
players were to prove to be an
important part of the success
of the team in the 2nd and 3rd
Wireplay seasons and would also
become 2 of the clans longest
standing members (both of which
still hold a Mama short handle
to this day). Then came Snoop
who enjoyed a 3 month ride with
the crew before he left to become
TopDawg of his own clan (BtK).
September would also see the beginning
of one of Mamas most intense yet
short lived rivalries. Unfortunately
this would be the only rivalry
where Mama never managed come
out on top. At the time clan Original
Gangsters were the biggest thing
on the UK Kingpin having pretty
much cleaned up the competition
in Wireplays first KP season.
We would challenge OG for their
coveted position on the OGL ladder
and despite being a new and relatively
inexperienced team Mama were able
to take OG to their limits. We
even managed to field the 2 highest
scorers on the server (Salem and
Jak-L). However, Mama didn't manage
to topple OG on this occasion,
but the 2 teams would meet again
a couple of months later for a
rematch.
Mama would start to climb the
OGL ladder by virtue of victory
and forfeit until they bumped
into Fidelis Familia, a US clan
who held a fairly high spot on
the OGL ladder. Of course Mama
were quick to book a match with
F2 and after some wrangling over
the servers the game was finally
played on UK soil with an agreed
rematch to be played State side.
Mama pressed the latency wild
card to the maximum of their abilities
and managed to secure a place
near that top of the OGL world
rankings. All involved left the
server in high spirits and in
anticipation of a rematch. Unfortunately
this rematch would never materialize.
